The 6 Best Cooked Food Center Restaurants
Hidden away above the city’s wet markets, the SAR’s cooked food centers are home to some of the city’s finest food. Nicholas Cheung seeks out the best restaurants on the circuit.

Just in Thai
It’s hard to pick just one Thai restaurant in the Kowloon City Market, but Amporn Thai Food is one of the best. To start, try the papaya salad ($45) which is smothered in spicy sauce, or the tangy sweet-and-sour prawn sashimi ($79). The restaurant is especially famous for its roasted pork neck ($55)—it’s served with an intense Thai dried chili dipping sauce called jaew. Balance out the spice with an iced mango juice ($22) or a lemon soda ($25).
Shop 9, 3/F, Kowloon City Market, 100 Nga Tsin Wai Rd., Kowloon City, 2716-3689.

Real Good Eats
The Sheung Wan Market is filled with awesome eats, but our favorite is Thai Good Taste. In particular, the set lunch is an awesome deal—think a big bowl of chicken red curry plus rice for just $38. It’s packed with chicken, veggies and just the right hit of heat. Can’t handle Thai spice? The fresh iced lemon kumquat soda (add $6) might just be the solution.
Shop CF23, 2/F, Sheung Wan Market, 345 Queen’s Rd. Central, Sheung Wan, 2851-0501.

Ain’t No Trang
If you’ve been hurting for some authentic Vietnamese, then you’ll appreciate Nha Trang Thanh in Sham Shui Po’s Pei Ho Street Market complex. The mixed meat pho noodle soup ($34) is a must-try. This hearty mix of beef, tendons and chicken all topped with herbs has a subtly sweet flavor, which is only enhanced with an obligatory Vietnamese condensed-milk coffee on the side. Now we’re talking.
