New-to-town salon Milinni offers great value hair services in a casual and creative setting.

The Look: A chic new hair salon opened up on Queen’s Road Central, Milinni Salon stretches its low-key vibes across 2,800 feet. Designed by Shenzhen-based Chris Pang, who has worked with the Four Seasons, Milinni Salon has an east-meets-west feel and is split into three main sections—cutting, chemical and shampoo—plus a VIP room and a bar area that’s great for private events. Each zone has its own urban-cool design, and the cutting area is decorated with hanging oval mirrors, pretty blue brick walls and lots of quirky artwork.


The Stylist: My technician, Marco Tam has over 12 years of experience in coloring and intensive hair treatments, like organic hair spa services from Aveda, Air Wave Vita perming and Brazilian Blowouts. After assessing my damaged and frizzy hair, Marco suggested a BBO and assured me that the treatment wouldn’t deplete all my volume or natural wave.

The Experience: As soon as you enter, the team greets you with a warm cup of tea. If you arrive after work and are missing out on dinner, the hostess will help you order a bite to eat—a nice touch especially if you’re there for a long-haul service like a BBO. On my long hair, the treatment took a total of three hours from start to finish. Using the original Brazilian Blowout Açai Hair Care brand, Marco completed my treatment in five steps: a good scrub so my hair was squeaky clean, product application, blow dry, straightening, wash, and a final blow dry.


The Result: Following the treatment, my hair now dries in 15 minutes (as opposed to 45)—no straightening iron needed. It has also faced up to the Hong Kong humidity with aplomb, keeping the frizz to a minimum without sacrificing body.
