HKU Collapse Creates Meme Storm
A controversial closed-door meeting at the University of Hong Kong was thrown into chaos last week after students stormed the room. The meeting was intended to further delay the appointment of liberal scholar Johannes Chan to the post of pro-vice-chancellor. During the scuffle, Department of Surgery head Professor Lo Chung-mau fell to the floor clutching his knee, remaining immobile for some time. A photo of Lo on the floor began circulating online, and netizens started to Photoshop the prone figure, posing him as a dancer, a diving footballer and a fighting game character, among others. Lo insists that he did not fake his injury.

Our Take: Strong meme game, internet.

Hong Kong, Anti-Sausagefest
A report published by the Census and Statistics Department has revealed that the ratio of women to men is increasing in the SAR. Last year, there were 858 men for every 1,000 women in Hong Kong, down from 864:1,000 the year before. In addition, last year 7,600 Hong Kong women married men from the mainland, a tenfold increase on statistics in the 1980s. Love consultants and matchmakers have advised singletons to broaden their social networks.

Our Take: Good news, guys! Bad news, girls!

Magistrate Threatened After Sentencing Breast-Assault Woman
Deputy magistrate Michael Chan of the Tuen Mun Court has claimed he has been threatened after finding a female protester guilty of assaulting a police chief inspector with her breast. Ng Lai-ying was one of four protesters charged after taking part in anti-parallel trader protests in Yuen Long in March. She was sentenced to three months and 15 days in prison. Deputy magistrate Chan revealed that intimidation had made him worry for his personal safety, but insisted that it did not affect his ruling and sentencing. All four defendants are currently on bail pending an appeal.

Our Take: What was the magistrate threatened with? More tits?
