Michelin Guide Hong Kong/Macau 2016 Announced

It’s that time of year again: Our favorite rotund, white mascot (well, after Pillsbury and Baymax, of course) has rolled into town and bestowed the highly coveted (and somewhat highly controversial), Michelin stars on Hong Kong’s flourishing food scene.

There were a few expected awards, a few shockers (namely, those who were left out), and an all-new "street food" section for the 852.

Check out the highlights below, along with the full list of Michelin-starred restaurants for you to chow your way through in 2016:

Highlights:

-This year Cantonese cuisine reigned supreme, with the only new 3-star restaurant to join the cream of the crop awarded to T’ang Court in the Langham Hotel. The restaurant joins five other 3-stars in Hong Kong who were able to retain their elite status, including Bo Innovation and Lung King Heen.

-Further emphasizing our homegrown cuisine, new 2-stars to join the list were Forum in Sino Plaza and Ming Court at the Cordis Hong Kong, both paying homage to Cantonese classics.

-Chef Philippe Orrico gained one star at ON Dining while losing a star at Upper Modern Bistro, while Serge et le Phoque soared onto the map, thanks to its innovative French cooking and balance of casual and fine dining.

-In our sister SAR, Jade Dragon and The Tasting Room joined the 3-star club, while five new 2-star restaurants (including Shinji and Mizumi) reinforced Macau’s evolving status as a culinary destination.
