Why you should be watching it: To all the Marvel addicts of Hong Kong, you can raise your glasses because "Jessica Jones" is now here. The story follows the Marvel Comics character of the same name and is praised for its approach to deeper topics such as sexuality, rape, assault and mental disorders. The anti-heroine, Jessica Jones, was a former superhero diagnosed with PTSD and the series begins when she retires from her former role to set up a detective agency. The plot will leave you hungry for more as you follow the flawed main character in a darkly sexy world.
Making a Murderer
Why you should be watching it: Netflix’s hit crime show "Making a Murderer" is now available for Hongkongers in the comfort of your bed. Based on the true life case of Steven Avery, the series is filmed over the course of 10 years with a dark and disturbing plot that has had viewers gripped to the screen. Avery’s story is intensely unrelenting—he was imprisoned for rape and murder, but was released 18 years later when DNA evidence proved he was innocent all along. The story only begins here, though, as two years after, he was once again accused and sentenced to jail for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach.
Master of None
Why you should be watching it: Newly released "Master of None" is an American comedy that has racked up viewers from all over the world in just two months. The series focuses on the personal and professional life of Dev, who is an indecisive 30 year old living in New York City. Deemed as outrageously funny by many, "Master of None" touches on the issues of race and sex through a lighthearted lens that’ll be sure to have you roaring with laughter.
Daredevil
Why you should be watching it: Grab your bucket of popcorn, because Netflix has arrived with "Daredevil." Another one for the Marvel Comics fans, the story follows Matt Murdock slash Daredevil—blind lawyer by day and crime fighter by night. The show unexpectedly brings a sense of humanity that is rarely found in superhero films with a flawed main character who is simply a man with senses better than a normal human’s, so you don’t have to worry in any way if supernatural genres aren’t your cup of tea.
Orange Is the New Black
Why you should be watching it: Netflix’s most watched American drama series "Orange Is the New Black" is for you if you want to be educated about sexual realism and diversity while enjoying your Friday night indoors. Based on a real life memoir, the show revolves around New Yorker Piper Chapman, sentenced to 15 months in jail for transporting drug money 10 years prior for her former girlfriend, Alex Vause. The two meet again in prison, where they re-explore their relationship and meet other prisoners.
Twinsters
Why you should be watching it: Released in 2015, you may have heard of "Twinsters" as the widely supported documentary that had humble beginnings as a Kickstarter project. Following the real life story of identical twin sisters who discovered each other through Youtube, met and confirmed their identity through a DNA test, the show illustrates just how powerful social media can be. Anaïs Bordier is a French student studying in the UK who stumbled across a video of Samantha Futerman one day and was amazed by their physical similarity. After some research, she finds out that they were born on the same date, in the same city and were both adopted: a must-watch for all the emotional feels.
