California Fitness Shutters Doors in Wake of Controversy, Rent Struggles

Mega-fitness chain J.V. Fitness has today shut down California Fitness, mYoga and Leap.

The South China Morning Post has reported that mega-fitness chain J.V. Fitness today shut down California Fitness, mYoga and Leap.

California Fitness found itself embroiled in controversy after two senior members were arrested for violating the city’s trade description law against false advertising of goods and services. The company long been struggling to pay rent—its Quarry Bay gym owed $2.94 million in rent and services alone.

All subsidiaries under J.V. Fitness are shut down until further announcements. It runs 12 gym centers under the three companies.
