"Arrival" Poster 'Shops Shanghai Skyscraper into Hong Kong Skyline

It's probably a tactic to boost China's box office takings.

The trailer and 12 posters for Denis Villenueve’s sci-fi alien flick "Arrival" were released on August 16, but aliens and enormous spacecraft aren't the only weird arrivals in the promo material.

In each of the posters, what seems to be a gigantic Koko Krunch is seen hovering above a variety of locations across the world. These include Hong Kong's legendary skyline—or rather, Hong Kong with an unusual addition.

The posters appear to have awkwardly photoshopped Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower among our city's skyscrapers. As the poster tagline asks—Why is it here?

One of these things is not like the others... and it's not the giant alien spacecraft.

The sci-fi flick is based on Ted Chiang’s award-winning short “Story of Your Life,” and stars Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whittaker as a team of experts—a linguist, a mathematician and an US Army Colonel, respectively—who are on a mission to establish communications with a mysterious alien species that has suddenly arrived on Earth.

This isn't the first time our city has starred in film posters, and we’ve definitely seen better examples.

Holy skyline, Batman!

A 2008 poster for Christopher Nolan’s "The Dark Knight," for instance, featured a panoramic and architecturally correct view of Hong Kong’s brightly lit skyline, not only showing the Bank of China and IFC 2, but also making sure they were exactly where they should be.

"Arrival" premieres at the Venice Film Festival on September 1 and is in theaters on November 11. Watch the trailer below, which we have to admit looks kinda cool (if you're into alien-arrival movies AND theories of linguistics):
