I found Muy Bueno muybuenocookbook.com on one of my hunts through the internet for information on cooking Mexican food - the cuisine I miss the most from my adolescence in southern California. Muy Bueno is a blog written by a Texan family of Mexican descent - Evangelina (Vangie) and her two daughters, Yvette and Veronica. The three women started the blog two years ago and their Muy Bueno cookbook is scheduled for publication next month.

The blog shows the variety and complexity of the cuisine - it's not just combo platters with rice and beans, nachos piled high with olives, guacamole and sour cream, and overstuffed burritos, which cheap Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants would have you believe. The Muy Bueno recipes include roasted tomatillo-chipotle salsa, tacos al pastor with roasted pineapple salsa, slow-roasted chipotle chicken, tres leches (three milk) cake, Mexican chocolate guinness cake, molotes (Oaxacan masa empanadas), green chilli and turkey enchiladas, and hibiscus sangria.
