(HK$78/10ml), from the Parisian Lodge Collection, is a burgundy nail varnish that has orange undertones when dry. Apply one coat starting from the middle of the nail. The varnish spreads to the sides of the nail quickly and has a glossy finish. Starts to chip after a few days. Available at Seibu and select Watsons stores.

(HK$245/2x10ml) is a double-layer nail varnish that creates a crocodile-skin effect. First, apply one coat of the gold varnish to nails. After about 10 minutes follow up with a coat of the green varnish, which has a runny consistency and needs to be applied lightly and quickly. After a few minutes, the green varnish starts to crack, revealing an intricate network of thin gold veins, resembling reptilian skin. Available at all Dior beauty stores and counters.

(HK$132/15ml), from the Skyfall Collection, is a deep aubergine shade. Apply from the middle of the nail and let the varnish spread outwards before continuing. One coat is sufficient. The varnish is easy to apply evenly, sets quickly, with a glossy finish, and is resilient and long-lasting. Available from the end of this month at select Mannings stores.

(HK$190/10ml) is a muted army-green shade that we love for winter. Before applying, wipe all but a small amount of varnish off the wide brush back into the bottle. One or two strokes should cover the entire nail in the thick, opaque colour. Sets with a glossy finish. Available at all Yves Saint Laurent beauty stores and counters.
