Behind the label: Moscot

SARAH COTTEE
Founded in 1915 by Hyman Moscot, this unisex eyewear brand is an established institution in downtown New York. For nearly 100 years, the family-run business has been creating classic designs aimed at those seeking timeless, quality glasses. When Kenny Moscot, the fourth generation of Moscots to take the firm's helm, took over in 1992, he relaunched the brand's iconic styles with a vintage theme. Since then, the label's following has expanded, winning over celebrity fans such as Johnny Depp.

the glasses are beautifully crafted and look effortlessly cool, reflecting the brand's New York roots. The craftsmanship is also to be admired, with Moscot refusing to convert to mass production and instead making sure each frame is made by hand.

the Lemtosh frames (top right; HK$1,880) encapsulate geek chic perfectly and can double up as sunglasses thanks to the new Cliptosh clip-on lenses (right centre; HK$780 a pair), available in matt black and gold. For a bolder look there's the striking Shepard in black (right; HK$2,280).

Moscot is available at Visual Culture, 21 Lan Fong Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2525 3911 or at moscot.com
