Farah Malik, a Pakistani Muslim, and Dana Arbib, a Libyan Jew, created A Peace Treaty after they met while living in Rome, Italy, in 2008. Malik's training in ancient Roman jewellery and goldsmithing, and Arbib's background in graphic, textile and product design have been combined to form a powerful partnership. The label began with a pact, to empower and employ skilled artisans working in regions experiencing sociopolitical strife, including places in Asia, the Middle East, South America and Africa. A Peace Treaty, which focuses on jewellery and scarves, has grabbed the attention of celebrities such as Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani.
