Founded in 2004 by Brits Luke Scheybeler and Simon Mottram, Rapha has quickly grown via word of mouth and an almost cultish devotion from fans. What started out as an attempt to make stylish cycling wear inspired by the less logo-heavy kit that graced Le Grande Tour in the 1960s, has morphed into a full lifestyle brand, with casual wear, bags and small leather accessories. Still at core a performance roadwear brand, Rapha has dabbled with high fashion and created collections with the likes of Paul Smith.
in case you haven't picked up on it, road cycling and fixies (fixed-gear bicycles) in particular are super-cool at the moment, so having the right bike also means having the right gear. Rapha may not be the cause of cycling's recent popularity but it's certainly ridden the wave, creating subtle, highly technical and yet fashion-friendly clothing. Cycling shorts are no longer embarrassing!
serious bike nerds and ambitious amateurs alike will love the signature Rapha short-sleeve cycle jersey (right; HK$1,200) bearing the brand's signature pink stripe. If you're getting fully kitted out then you'll also need a lightweight cycle cap (centre; HK$300) that comes in a variety of colours. Finally, city riders will appreciate the clever Rapha lapelled jacket (left; HK$3,600) from the City Life collection, a fashionable suit jacket that transforms into a lightweight sports coat.
