One of 37 private villas in the Katamanda estate, above Kata Noi Beach, in southwest Phuket, Thailand, Santisook sleeps 10 (or 12, if four are children) in extreme comfort.

You can stay in this one for free.

Well, yes, of course. You don't have to pay for an individual stay at Santisook, but you do have to have invested at least £88,333 (HK$1.2 million) in a fund offered by The Hideaways Club.

The Hideaways Club combines investment in a portfolio of high-end properties around the world with holidays booked through a "lifestyle club". Two funds are offered: the Classic Collection, which includes 40 villas (including Santisook) and ski chalets; and the City Collection (entry-level share: £69,500), a global portfolio of city-centre apartments. Buy a premium share in the Classic Collection for £250,000 and you're entitled to up to six weeks of holiday time a year. Reciprocal arrangements with similar clubs bring the number of accommodation options in the villa fund to 250. Members are looked after by a concierge team based in London and ones at the individual properties, and a booking can be made for a vacant villa at as little as 48 hours' notice; a benefit probably most appreciated by the "handful of celebrities" and sports personalities (such as tennis player Tim Henman) who apparently own shares in the funds.
