Who started it? The brainchild of four twenty-somethings living in a one-upone- down in Notting Hill, London, Galvan offers sophisticated, sleek and modern eveningwear. The foursome – Sola Harrison, Katherine Holmgren, Anna-Christin Haas and Carolyn Hodler – were inspired to start out on their own having stumbled upon a gap in the market for evening dresses that suited their active social calendars. The styles are elegant and simple but firmly rooted in drama, with a thigh-high slit here and a plunging back there. Already the fledgling label, which launched just this year, has shimmied into many a major department store, including Browns and Bergdorf Goodman.
Why we love it: Galvan’s debut collection has been carefully curated, with structured plunges that hark back to 90s glamour alongside fashion-forward metallic and iridescent fabrics.
What we’d pick: when the next gallery opening or film premiere swings round, we’ll hop to Galvan for inspiration. We love the lurex striped dress (above left; HK$15,786), a stunning floor-length gown with contrasting metallic stripes that catch the light and accentuate the form. And we adore the cutout number (above right; HK$9,773), a classic design with net inserts that draw the eye to all the right places.
