The Talent: Audrey Savransky

Jing Zhang

Audrey Savransky (pictured), the Belgian founder of Hong Kong jewellery label AS29 (the name comes from her initials and lucky number), reveals industry trends and why diamonds really are a girl's best friend.

"By coincidence. I studied journalism and communications until I realised I didn't enjoy writing. I never studied diamonds or jewellery design but my family has been in this industry for four generations. I guess it was my destiny to work in this field. It was only when I moved to Hong Kong, 10 years ago, that I started working in this industry."

"Just like your character and personality changes, exactly the same [process] applies to the type of designs and jewellery I like. They change, they evolve, they vary season after season … but they always keep a part of me that will never change - my brand DNA."

"Complicated jewellery! Pieces you would wear on parts of the body you didn't wear them on before. Women no longer want to dress only their finger with jewellery but the entire hand. They don't want just studs to cover their earlobe but a piece that covers the entire ear."

"Asia and especially China, where my pieces are manufactured, have helped my creativity. I don't think this would have been possible in Europe. My last work trip was to Beirut, Lebanon. I had a trunk show there. Lebanese people are quite charming and welcoming. Their food is amazing and the city has been a real source of inspiration and pleasure."

"Yes, they truly are … at least for me. They are the best cure to any aches and pains."

"Right now it would be rock 'n' roll chic … but who knows what it will be next season."

"Kate Moss, Angelina Jolie, Vanessa Paradis, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey."
