Eugenie Bouchard was scheduled to compete in the inaugural Hong Kong Tennis Open tomorrow, however, having dropped out of the US Open last week on medical grounds, as of press time, it is unknown whether she’ll be playing in Victoria Park. During the Australian Open in January, the 20-year-old, dubbed “Canada’s tennis sweetheart”, was asked during an on-court interview who would be her dream date. Bouchard quickly named the recently arrested (yes, again) obnoxious pop irritant Justin Bieber …

While chatting with an animal rights protester earlier this year, the Canadian was overheard proclaiming, “Air France sucks”, after it was revealed the airline carries more than 10,000 monkeys a year to United States laboratories for testing. The Biebs’ comment won praise from animal rights group Peta but it wasn’t long ago that he deserted his pet monkey, Mally, after it was denied entry to Germany. Last month Bieber became one of the celebrities seen dousing themselves with buckets of ice water to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Another star who has taken the cold shower is Ricky Gervais …

The British comedian will next year resume the role that made him famous: David Brent has left The Office (and the small screen) to pursue a music career in the movie Life on the Road. Fans of the television mockumentary will remember Brent’s pearls of wisdom: “If you want the rainbow you’ve got to put up with the rain,” Brent once espoused. “Do you know which ‘philosopher’ said that? Parton was set to adopt the dog before it was eventually reunited with its owners. In 2009, Parton claimed to have written more than 3,000 songs since the age of seven, during an interview with veteran broadcaster Larry King …

The 80-year-old journalist, branded a “daft old goat” by his CNN talk show replacement Piers Morgan, has released an alcoholinfused gourmet ice cream, the Larry King Heart Bar. The vegan, dairy-free treat, which blends berry sorbet with merlot wine, is to benefit the Larry King Cardiac Foundation, which provides life-saving cardiac procedures for those without the means or insurance to pay for such treatment. When King was absent from his nightly show Larry King Live, famous faces substituted for him, including Kermit the Frog and Sarah Ferguson …

The Duchess of York faced up to 22 years imprisonment in 2012 when the Republic of Turkey issued an international warrant for her arrest. The Turkish authorities claimed Ferguson, who founded the Children in Crisis charity, had illegally filmed a Turkish state orphanage in 2008 and presented a distorted view of the facility to derail the republic’s entry into the European Union. Luckily for Fergie’s two daughters, princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, she escaped incarceration. The celeb sisters were the inspiration for one royaltyobsessed Canadian family when it came to naming their twin daughters: Beatrice and her youngerby- six-minutes sister, Eugenie Bouchard.
