1. Fit for a king Loro Piana is, or at least was, one of the premier wool and cashmere fabric mills in the world. Since it became part of LVMH last year, the venerable Italian company has been turbo-charged into a full-scale fashion house. Purists might consider this dash to become a ready-to-wear luxury brand off-putting but the label now has unfettered access to the finest materials in the world, as shown with its Gift of Kings collection, featuring the finest merino wool that New Zealand and Australia have to offer. We especially love the scarves (top; HK$24,800 each) and the jacket (bottom; HK$95,000). While undoubtedly expensive, they are an expression of real luxury. Loro Piana is in IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7398.

2. Road show Judging by the number of early morning and late evening riders racing around Hong Kong these days, road cycling is taking off here. With perfect timing, British road cycling-kit maker Rapha has started to offer its rather hip and technically sound wares in the SAR. Beloved by budding Bradley Wigginses everywhere, Rapha is known for adding a dash of retro flair to practical clothing and we especially like the national flag-themed jerseys (pictured; HK$1,700 each). The Rapha pop-up store is at Time & Space, Poga Building, 6 Po Tuck Street, Shek Tong Tsui, tel: 2858 0225.

3. Fresh out of Owens By all accounts, Nike is killing it at the moment. Colours, fabrics and star athlete lines, it's way ahead of the competition. Not to be outdone, Adidas is also treading a more high-fashion path and after collaborating with prankster Jeremy Scott, the German shoe brand has linked up with Paris-based American designer Rick Owens. Famed for his grungy aesthetic and simple use of colour, Owens has created a trainer collection (pictured; HK$5,600 a pair) that's sure to be required uniform in Berlin techno clubs. That's a good thing, by the way. Adidas x Rick Owens is available at Harvey Nichols, The Landmark, tel: 3695 3388.

We've gone on and on (and on some more) about our love for Kim Jones and the magic he's weaving at Louis Vuitton menswear, and the diminutive Brit has won us over again with his autumn-winter collection. Jones recently visited South America and the Inca, Nazca and other indigenous cultures have clearly influenced his latest collection. While the prints and mankets (man-sized blankets worn as scarves, doncha know) are a bit much for us, we like this internationalist look, with splashes of British, French and Italian inspiration, of double-breasted overcoat (HK$35,000), double-breasted jacket (HK$29,600) and matching trousers (HK$8,650; all far right). We assume most people would wear something more substantial under the jacket than what this strapping model has on. Sadly, the shoes and bag are not yet priced for Hong Kong. Next we have this "technical travel" look, as Jones calls it, the key pieces being the wool and shearling jacket (HK$66,500) and shearling trousers (HK$55,500; both right). Again, we'll have to wait to find out the prices for the shoes and accessories but that tech fabric bag looks like a must-have. Louis Vuitton is in The Landmark, Central, tel: 8100 1182.
