1. Tough act Alexander McQueen's ubiquitous skull scarves have long been a wardrobe staple for many a fashionista but the label has recently been dipping its toes in more demure, sedate waters with regards to accessories. This shift can be seen in the brand's Legend handbag range, which features a tote, a shopper and a clutch. The usual patent leather and shiny hardware are nowhere to be seen. Instead, the bags are made from stiff leather and have a strong base and rigid corners. With winter setting in, we recommend the Legend shopper (right; HK$18,500), which should fit all your cold-weather accessories, while the coral tote (left; HK$12,600) would add a shot of colour to an all-black outfit. Alexander McQueen is available at Sogo, 555 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2831 3962. 2. Armed and fabulous On a trip to Cambodia, Hong Kong-based jewellery designer Cassandra Postema met a craftsman who created pieces from bullets and bomb casings left over from the country’s civil war. Inspired, Postema, the founder of social enterprise Emi&Eve, collaborated with the craftsman to create the Bullets to Beauty brand. Its latest collection, Sunrise, offers stunning brass accessories wrought into eccentric designs. We love the Fresia earrings (top right; HK$550), the Leafbud bracelet (top left; HK$670) and the Tamarind necklace (above; HK$1,200). The jewellery is available at emiandeve.com . 3. Strings attached Stella McCartney has gone all comfy shrugs and quirky embroidery this year, touting elongated knits and sporty evening dresses in the bulk of her eponymous label. Trouser suits have made a triumphant return, with androgynous cuts in bold winter tones of bottle green and maroon. McCartney has had plenty of fun playing with texture, stitching swirls of hiking rope onto woollen coats, hanging looped silk tassels off tiny dresses and tie-dyeing cotton onesies. Sassy comfort seems to be the name of McCartney's game, and we love the tie-dye jumper dress (right; HK$14,900) and the show-stopping, tasselled minidress (far right; HK$38,000). Stella McCartney is available at Joyce, 16 Queen's Road Central, tel: 2810 1120.
