Who founded it? In 2011, Berlin-based designer Jean Balke quit her artdirector job at a German agency to pursue her passion for stones and conscious environmental living. After learning silversmithing techniques in New York, in the United States, she created her own jewellery line. When buyers from fashion chain Anthropologie saw her work they ordered 2,000 pieces and the Nallik brand was launched. Why we love it: each semiprecious stone is handpicked by Balke herself, and verified for its fair-trade status. All stones are free of artificial colourings, the brand celebrating their raw and authentic state, and set in hammered and brushed brass, polished by the hands of time. What we’d pick: the Cavansite pendant (above centre; HK$1,453) glitters like tiny snowflakes, with a dab of cerulean blue. The rainbow fluorite pendant (above left; HK$1,104) is a beautiful piece, featuring a translucent purple and green colour palette. Lastly, the China jade ball pendant (above right; HK$1,197) is tempting for those seeking a refined accessory that is suitable for the office. Where can you get it?
