Who knows what 2015 has in store? Fingers-crossed it's the good stuff - weddings, windfalls, travel, etc, but just in case it isn't all roses, here's a great way to beat the blues. Founded by Vene Cheng (chief happiness officer) and Judith Hoffmann (chief party officer), Molala is a Hong Kong-based start-up that promises to provide the perfect pick-me-ups for life's hiccups. So whether it's a boyfriend doing the dirty (cue the "ring for a cuddle" bell), getting laid off at work (try the FUNemployment chocolate bar) or a broken arm (there's a personalised gift basket for that), you can mail order a remedy. The idea was born after a friend's fiance ran off with her wedding planner, explains Cheng. "She locked herself up for weeks and I really wanted to send her something to cheer her up. That's when I realised presents for unfortunate events are very difficult to find." Molala is an online store that sells products ranging from a F***ing Awesome Kit" (to remind underappreciated employees how great they are) to colourful personalised helium balloons. The Ex-Lover voodoo doll is one of the site's bestsellers, suggesting a direct link between being cheered up and revenge. Cheng chose the name Molala, which means "out of the blue" in Cantonese, "because unhappy occasions always happen very suddenly". With global delivery services (except for the inflated balloons), Cheng and Hoffmann believe their business can bring cheer to unlucky souls around the world. "Our brand is about trying to make people happy," says Cheng. For more details, visit www.molalacompany.com .
