What’s the story? British brand Phase Eight was created by Patsy Seddon in 1979. From a single store at 8 Bellevue Terrace, in Wandsworth, south London, the company has evolved into a global enterprise with more than 400 outlets in 14 international markets, working with leading international retailers. Entering Hong Kong in partnership with Rue Madame Fashion Group, Phase Eight opened its first local store in Central a month ago.

Why we love it: it might not have the most avant garde designs but Phase Eight consistently delivers lush, feminine pieces and at a competitive price point – especially its cocktail and evening gowns. Extravagant details abound, including bold floral prints, brocade, pearl, lace, velvet and sequins. Pieces range from elaborate formal, floor-length showstoppers to contemporary cocktail solutions that are likely to hit a sweet spot in Asia.

What we’d pick: the 1920sinspired fringe dress (below right; HK$2,600) is a fun party piece with reflective black bands – great for busting a move on the dance floor. The floorlength dress with dramatic gold embroidery (below left; HK$6,400) is as sleek as it gets, with a feminine scooped neckline and sheer skirt.

Where can you get it? Phase Eight is in IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 9178.
