Jewellery label Kasané combines traditional and modern sensibilities

Who started it? Kasané was launched recently by Hong Kong-based gemologist Karishma Sani, who studied at the Gemological Institute of America. Working at auction house Bonhams inspired her to launch her own collection, which references her Indian background and travels.

Why we love it: Kasané may be categorised as fashion jewellery but its versatile and sometimes quirky designs strike a balance between unusual and wearable. Sani takes more traditional materials, such as pearls, and transforms them by employing fashionforward, playful styles that can be layered for a more modern look. Each piece is designed with comfort in mind, so they are not overcomplicated. Sani is also particular about quality and offers free re-plating for all pieces for the first year.

Her debut collection can be split into two categories: modern and organic. The former is in keeping with the latest trends while the latter, more feminine series takes inspiration from nature, with floral, leaf and evil eye motifs. All styles are available in sterling silver plated in white or yellow gold.

What we’d pick: must-haves include the heirloominspired Crown rings (above; HK$740 each), which can be stacked or worn alone. Statement styles include the Leaf earrings (top right; HK$702), which are embellished with cubic zirconias, and the Pearl Bar earrings (top left; HK$939), a modern twist on classic pearl earrings.
