Ebby Rane, fledgling luggage brand inspired by Victorian trunks

Who founded it? Sonja M. Salmon was a jet-setting, Toronto-based corporate lawyer until, frustrated by the choice of luggage for women – or the lack thereof – she quit her profession to create the kind of product she would want: elegant, functional and with a detailoriented design.

Why we love it: while the brand takes inspiration from Victorian bespoke trunks, the craftsmanship of its products and their functionality are firmly in the 21st century. Even better, the luggage features 10 removable compartments in which to store toiletries, shoes, gadgets, jewellery, laundry and so on.

What we’d pick: the fledgling brand’s hero product is the Quartermaster (above left; HK$8,200), a complete carry-on solution with a marvellously organised interior and a vegetable-tanned leather luggage tag. Targeting the professional woman, the Quartermaster comes with an envelope-style 1887 Clutch (above right) suitable for both business meetings and evening cocktails. The Quartermaster comes in black, cargo green and white.

Where can you get it? Ebby Rane is available at www.ebbyrane.com.
