Who founded it? Born in Italy to an American mother and Persian architect father, Jalan Sahbá moved into fashion after giving up a high-flying career in interior design and architecture. Having lived on four continents, it was during a trip back to her family home, in Verona, that she decided to start an eponymous accessories brand. Why you’ll love it: the label’s exotic bags combine Sahbá’s multicultural aesthetic with Italian craftsmanship, fusing European refinement with hints of Persia and Africa. A signature detail is the horn-shaped stone clasp, which is hand-carved in India and made of semi-precious stone, such as amethyst, lemon quartz or rhodochrosite. What we’d recommend: the Odessah (above right; US$895) is an instant winner. The minaudiere is made with white hand-cut calf leather and 14-carat gold-plated hardware, and finished with a plush leather interior. The Panarea (above left; US$1,180) comes in vibrant coral leather with an amethyst clasp. The Xephina (above centre; US$1,100) features a sleek gold-plated metal frame and sumptuous blue hide leather. Where can you get it? Jalan Sahbá is available at www.jalansahba.com .
