From Jack Wills to will.i.am, we've got you covered

Abid Rahman

Dr Hue Adidas has always lagged a little behind Nike when it comes to colourways but things are changing and the latest, although limited-edition, update to the classic Superstar range is the Adidas Originals Supercolor collection. The range (HK$799 per pair) was created in collaboration with Pharrell Williams (so we can't be entirely certain Marvin Gaye didn't come up with it first) and offers a choice of 50 colours - from loud, offensive orange to lovely purple. To use a hackneyed phrase, get them while stocks last! Adidas is at 6B Kingston Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2504 2186.

Someone should ban LinkedIn. Seriously. If there is a better way of depressing yourself by seeing how all your university friends and foes are doing better than you, then we have yet to come across it. Still, maybe that's just us. So, kids, if you're still at university, or school for that matter, knuckle down and try to avoid spending all your money on snakebite. You'll thank us in 10 years' time. In possibly the weakest segue ever (sorry, we had to get the LinkedIn thing off our chest), as part of this taking-university-seriously policy, we recommend you dress the part with university outfitters Jack Wills. We like this look of Letterford jean jacket (HK$1,000), flannel shirt (HK$750), sweatpants (HK$630) and maybe throw some badges on for a bit of personality (HK$40 each; all above left). We also like this look of cable crewneck jumper (HK$1,900), poplin shirt (HK$750) and preppy slim chinos (HK$680; all above right). Jack Wills is at 77 Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 3105 1798.

Waste not From Pharrell we go to will.i.am and a rather different collaboration. Ekocycle is an initiative started by Coca- Cola and the Black Eyed Peas singer to create desirable items from waste products. It’s teamed up with German luxury company MCM to create a range of leather goods, including a striking studded backpack (above right; HK$9,800) and a pouch with the MCM legend (above left; HK$5,500). The best of all comeback specials, however, is what most right-minded adults would call the fanny pack or bum bag but what MCM insists on calling a hip sack (top; HK$5,200).

If the cap fits … So about five years ago, The goods started wearing New Era fitted baseball caps in a last, desperate attempt to remain down with the kids. We’re still wearing them now but, alas, we stopped being cool, oh, about five years ago. Anyway, don’t let us put you off getting a New Era fitted cap. These days they come in all sort of colours and materials. We like the camo NBA caps from the 59Fifty collection (above left; HK$399 each) and, if you’re really down, then why not pick up the leather and wool mix cap (above right; HK$499)? New Era is in Park Hotel, 61 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 3523 0626.
