Wilson Fung calls himself an “amateur interior designer”. But the portfolio of his own homes suggests otherwise. Hong Kong-born Fung, whose interest in property exceeds mere dabbling, has worked his way up the real-estate ladder over the past 30 years, starting with 850 sq ft digs in Mid-Levels and culminating, about 20 addresses later, in a luxurious, 2,600 sq ft Happy Valley apartment.

A strategic planner when he’s not creating homes for pleasure and profit, Fung has always enjoyed fixing up flats in old buildings.

“I don’t like to tear down things that are new,” he says.

“When I bought this place, it was in such a dilapidated state that I didn’t feel bad about gutting it.”

The windows in the living rooms are the sole reminders of the original flat. But Fung redesigned them (see Tried + tested) to complement his plans for the 60- year-old, five-bedroom apartment he shares with his wife and 13-year-old daughter.
