Am I the only one who just loves the naked dresses worn by Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, J Lo, etc? Do you think I could get away with wearing one (if I can afford it)?
Naked and Not Afraid, Discovery Bay

The Dictator rules: No, dear, you're not alone. There are lots of tasteless and vulgar people out there. Aren't you sick of seeing regurgitations of the same gown? There were the awful mesh excuses for a dress worn by the likes of Rose McGowan back in 1998 and, more recently, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. By comparison the nude illusion dress is positively virginal, but I doubt either your wallet or your reputation can afford it. You can't exactly pick one off the rack at Atelier Versace, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, or Roberto Cavalli. Couture gowns like that must be custom-tailored to within an inch (or millimetre) of your life. Versace, however, does have some beautiful mini or maxi "naked" dresses with strategically placed blocks of colour, metallic and sheer fabrics (HK$55,300 to HK$71,500). Roberto Cavalli has a sheer illusion gown in taupe, embellished by metallic snakeskin appliqués (HK$169,000) while Elie Saab has an elegant sheer dress in white (HK$111,100 and up). J. Verzotti (21 Yiu Wah Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2832 9878) has some Beyoncé-worthy "naked" minidresses (HK$5,880). It doesn't really matter what you pick because, let's face it, anyone who sees you in it won't be focusing on the finer details.

I met a woman at a party who had a bracelet that was perfumed! I'd love to have something special like that, but when I asked where she bought it, she was very vague (intentionally?).
Scent Packing, Sai Kung

The Dictator: Big deal. Buddhists have had scented beads for generations. Well, those are actually fragrant wood prayer beads, but your new acquaintance isn't exactly following the Noble Eightfold Path. Let me guess. She said she didn't remember where she bought it, or that it was a "gift". Don't believe it for a second. A gift usually comes in branded packaging, especially jewellery. Regardless, let's get you better accessorised for your next meeting with Ms Cagey, shall we? You'd have no problem finding cheap, fruity-smelling trinkets, marketed to kids and teens. However, sophisticated scents and beautiful designs are more rare. At the top end, there is perfumer Kilian's scented jewellery collection (Harvey Nichols). Check out one of his scented cord bracelets with 18-carat gold clasps (HK$850). However, the better "gift" would be a piece from the Studio 54 collection, which includes a ring, a bangle and drop earrings (HK$2,000 and up). The gold spheres in the designs have ceramic hidden inside which can be perfumed with any of Kilian's 33 fragrances. Parfumeur Maison Francis Kurkdjian's scented bracelets, made from leather with silver clasps, are available in its Apom, Aqua Universalis or Lumiere Noire fragrances (HK$1,850 each; Joyce Grooming).
