I've been battling nasal hair for years. Tweezers, special contraptions, you name it, I've been there. So when I heard about home waxing for nose hair, I was thrilled. It sounds much more efficient than craning my neck in front of the bathroom mirror to try to pluck the hair out! Can you tell me where I can buy the tools to give my nose a Brazilian?
Wax On Wax Off, Pok Fu Lam
The Dictator rules: Great! You've just put everyone off their breakfast. DIY nose-waxing kits, really? I can think of a number of reasons why they're hard to find, starting with pain. Here's another: ingrown hairs. Doesn't nasal hair serve a purpose? Living in a polluted city, maybe we should all start growing more (www.rogaine.com; not really recommended for that purpose). But if you insist, then the only home product worth considering is Nad's Nose Wax for Men & Women (HK$146; amazon.com). Its "Safetip" applicator only grabs the hair on the outer rim of each nostril. Heat the wax in the microwave, dip applicator, insert into nose, wait 90 seconds to two minutes, then yank it out along with those pesky hairs. What's more (readers, eat up before reading on), there's a spatula at the other end for applying wax to your outer nose, which will rrrip out blackheads. Or leave it to the professionals: Flawless doesn't list nose waxing on its spa menu, but offers the service (HK$180; 4/F, Sea Bird House, 22 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2869 5868). In fact, most waxing specialists will do it.
I hate skinny jeans; I prefer those extra-wide-legged jeans, sort of like those other trousers that have been "in", but in denim. But all the jean shops I visit only have flares!
Wide Awake, Clear Water Bay
The Dictator: Sure! Why would you want to look attractive? Man-repelling denim culottes, gauchos, wide-leg trousers, or whatever you call them, are actually a trend from spring-summer - 2014, that is. Don't worry. The masses take time to catch up, even in this age of hyperspeed manufacturing. For autumn-winter 2015, Maison Martin Margiela has a black denim pair decorated with splashes of white paint at the hem, while the light blue wash has a white rope tie at the hips (HK$2,750 to HK$3,235). At Valentino, they come cropped in two-tone denim with braided detail at the waist or in plain, dark indigo (HK$8,200 to HK$9,600). Being late to the party, you might bag a deal in the summer sales. A cropped, elastic-waisted Drive Store pair is now HK$273 (www.zalora.com.hk), You can also reference how the likes of Kate Bosworth, Alexa Chung, and Elle Fanning wore them. Because they're all teeny tiny people, pairing big jeans with chunky jumpers and furs worked. You should stick with fitted tops, tanks, slim button-downs and, later, turtlenecks. Oh, and skip the obvious Seventies clog or wedge, in favour of Mary Jane flats, or vertiginous stilettos. Next?
