LA fashion label Co's must-haves for the Hong Kong autumn
Alba Pinto tells the story of the line's well-connected founders, Stephanie Danan and Justin Kern, the Hollywood stars who wear their clothes, and what Hongkongers will like about them
What’s the story? In 2011, Los Angeles-based film producer Stephanie Danan and her partner, model-turned-screenwriter Justin Kern, decided to try their hand at fashion design by launching Co, a line of “luxury essentials” that reflects the polish and panache of Hollywood glamour. And when you’re as well connected as these two are, it’s no biggie getting actresses Marisa Tomei, Aubrey Plaza and Elodie Bouchez to star in a satirical promotion for the launch of your line. Danan and Kern celebrate each season with a short, creative film, marrying the cinematic with the sartorial through collaborations with famous friends such as Oscar-nominated The Kids are All Right writer Stuart Blumberg.
Why we love it: the line is Parisian chic with a few pieces that take on the dreamlike eccentricity of a high fashion label. Plush angora bell jumpers, Mrs Dalloway-esque, minimalist evening gowns and skirts with severe, sculptured pleats blend vintage with modern while high-waisted bootleg jeans bring the collection back to reality.
