A Tribe Called Quest
We Got It From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service

When hip hop pioneer and original member Phife Dawg died suddenly earlier this year, aged 45, the recently reunited A Tribe Called Quest were in the process of completing their first album in almost two decades. Calling We Got It From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service a long-awaited follow up to 1998’s The Love Movement would be an understatement, but it will certainly be their last album. Thankfully, their swan song is far more than a tame nod to nostalgia. Joining the quartet of Phife, Q-Tip, Jarobi White and DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad are André 3000 (Kids), Kendrick Lamar (Conrad Tokyo) and long-time cohort Buster Rhymes (numerous tracks), with a little key tinkling from Elton John and the dexterous guitar licks of retro bluesman Jack White. Produced solely by Q-Tip, the beats are both fresh and classic ATCQ, but it’s the flowing rhymes that shine, with all of the emcees on top of their game. Closing rather aptly with The Donald, a tribute to Phife, We Got It From Here is a fitting testament to the late rapper and one of hip hop’s greatest crews.
