This guide holds your hand as it shows you how to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube as social-media-marketing tools for your business. Largely eschewing the blather that bogs down other guides, it sets out in a straightforward way how to use these platforms to meet SMART goals (objectives that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely). Author Calvin Kennedy also gives such handy advice as when and how many times to post (businesses on FB should aim for once or twice a day, five or more times on Twitter and once daily on Instagram or LinkedIn). Additionally, the most active days on FB are Thursdays and Fridays. We are also told how not to make it all about yourself, the kinds of photos to post, why FB’s Website Custom Audiences is valuable and how to run contests that allow you to engage your followers. Important, too, for dabblers who don’t have time to keep up with new must-haves are pointers to tools such as Curalate, Statigram, Buffer, Feedly, and many more. Then there’s MailChimp, although in declaring “e-mail is still important”, Kennedy underscores its future irrelevance.
