I've wanted a saddle bag for ages, and now that my aunt has given me money to buy my own Christmas present, I think I'm going to finally get one! Which one do you think I should go for?

The Dictator rules: Gosh, I hope you're talking handbags and not thighs. Before all that, just how much did Auntie Moneybags give you, and can she be my aunt too if it's significant? Saddle bags, for the ignorant, were originally used for travel by horse. In fashion, they are nicely rounded up to a top that goes straight across, and humans wear them with a shoulder or cross-body strap. For resort 2016, Gucci has made a perfect saddle bag called the Marmont in textured black or smooth tan calf leather, embellished with two interlocking Gs and a tiger's head in gold-tone metal (HK$22,500 to HK$24,500). We also love the Suede NS Decoy bag by Marc Jacobs, in either deep burgundy or scarlet red (HK$16,900 each). Chloé has the Goldie and the Drew in a variety of colours and combinations (HK$13,280 to HK$26,550). Alexander Wang brings his signature clean lines and iconic metallic studs to the Lia saddle bag (HK$7,900). Coach has one of the funkiest; the Shadow Crossbody has a chain strap and comes in either solid black or a geometric patchwork of leathers (HK$5,100 to HK$6,100). Is Auntie more of a scrooge or are you far too young to be indulging in designer bags? Don't cry. Esprit has some cute ones in tan faux leather for only HK$399. So do Forever 21, Zara, Mango and lots of others.

Why do I keep seeing women in amazing shirts that look like white button-downs pulled below their shoulders, but never find them in shops? If I tried that with one of my husband's dress shirts, it would just slip off!
Baring It, South Side

The Dictator: I don't know, but I blame you. Bare shoulders in winter? Are you crazy? You're actually onto something more than a fashion trend, though. If you search for "ways to tie a man's shirt", you'll find hundreds of fashion blogs and eco fashion websites, such as www.zerowastehome.com, showing you as many as 50 DIY styles. Off-the-shoulder is one of the easiest to achieve. Since I have a sneaky feeling you're only comfortable with the assurance of a label scratching your back, here are some solutions you have to pay for. You don't have to worry about it falling off with Rag & Bone's crinkle-effect, cotton poplin shirt, because it's made with elastic around the top (HK$3,790 but now on sale at the label's store in IFC Mall). Tibi also provides elasticated confidence, with the added flourish of sleeves that tie at the wrists (HK$2,500; Lane Crawford). Nicholas makes its off-the-shoulder cotton top with thin shoulder straps (HK$2,200; Lane Crawford). In general, you're sort of stuck between the sold-out selection from autumn-winter 2015 (think: Rosie Assoulin) and an exciting array of new off-the-shoulder shirts coming up for spring-summer 2016 by Monse, Joseph and others. It's all about the construction, so don't go cheap with this look.
