Is it true that wrap skirts are back? I do love a good wrap with a sneaky, sexy knee peeking out when you cross your legs. What's the right kind to get these days?

That's a Wrap, Central

The Dictator rules: Gross. You know you're not Sharon Stone circa Basic Instinct, right? (She showed a lot more than a knee and we don't want to think of you that way, thank you very much.) Before we start, let me just point out that Diane Von Furstenberg's signature dresses have been a wardrobe staple for eons and they have, duh, wrap skirts. Anyway, buy a wrap skirt designed for 2016 rather than 1992, and you're on the right track. Elizabeth and James has the Clementina, a wrap-effect, below-the-knee pencil skirt with a diagonal slit that cuts up to the left thigh (HK$2,700; Harvey Nichols). A bit more conceptual, Preen has a longer, asymmetrical skirt in black and white stripes (HK$9,590; D-mop, 11 On Lan Street, Central) that mixes wrapping and draping with dramatic results. If you like cerebral fashion then you are probably already a Cos fan, or you should be. Its autumn-winter collection promises all sorts of versatile skirts with clever details in oatmeal, black or burgundy wool (HK$1,190 and up). This season, Carven's gone skirt crazy. We're particularly taken with the scallop-edged, above-the-knee wrap skirts, and the chic, sculptural Mikado (HK$2,590 to HK$2,990). Wait, I've run out of space and I'm not ready to, uh, wrap it up yet! Also see: Vince, Helmut Lang, MM6 and Cedric Charlier.

Where might I find sandals with pompoms on? My style is a little bit bohemian, a little bit off-kilter, but I do love quality and fashion in general, I promise!

Haute Hippy, Clear Water Bay

The Dictator: Why don't I feel reassured? Amazingly, you are asking at just the right time because there are pompoms aplenty if you know where to look. Aquazzura has multitudes of them, including on 4.5-inch white leather sandals with multicoloured raffia pompoms across the toes and on the ends of the ankle ties (HK$6,200; Lane Crawford). They are also available in a lower sandal with block heels (HK$6,200; www.onpedder.com). Brian Atwood brings sophistication to the whimsical theme with aubergine coloured pumps with a single, large, rust-coloured pompom at the toe (HK$8,990; Harvey Nichols). Our No1 choice, though, is something a little different - a black and cream striped duchesse satin sandal by Monse, designed in collaboration with Mariela Montiel, with an ankle strap and a big, striped suede pompom at the toe (HK$5,670; www.netaporter.com). Figue has gorgeous flat sandals in pale goatskin leather with an Indian-style toe ring and a large pompom (HK$1,283; www.shopbop.com). What's wrong with whimsical, anyway? Mabu by Maria BK has some fabulously wild sandals (HK$1,365; www.netaporter.com), including a pair embellished with blue- cream- and camel-coloured pompoms, as well as beads and elephant charms (HK$1,465).
