Has Anna Wintour made a fashion faux pas?
Zhang Ziyi rocks a stunning, form-fitting, floral Givenchy number in Shanghai but the US Vogue editor’s turn at the Tony Awards could give the brand a bad name
Earlier this week, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi and US Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour both wore looks from Givenchy’s autumn/winter 2019 collection for high-profile public appearances.
At a cocktail party held in Shanghai by Vogue China, Zhang looked stunning in a form-fitting long-sleeved pleated dress with a ruffled collar in a floral print.
To attend the Tony Awards in New York, Wintour chose a custom-made version of a green dress with balloon sleeves from the collection and – dare we say – made a big, and rare, fashion faux pas.
While the floral print was beautiful, and tastefully matched the rainbow-coloured photo wall at the Tonys, the silhouette was quite off.
Given that the dress was especially designed for Wintour by Givenchy’s artistic director, Clare Waight Keller, the ill-fitting result is quite puzzling.
In spite of the unsuccessful outcome, however, Wintour deserves some credit for straying from her typical uniform and trying something different.
