The year was 2012, and 14-year-old Siobhan Haughey found herself sitting in possibly the worst seat at the London Olympics.
She was hunched in the corner of the last row, behind the diving pool, but any disappointment was soon swept aside by the anticipation rippling through the arena, and seeing athletes at the height of their powers take their place and prepare to compete.
And that was all it took.

Haughey decided then and there that she would return to the Olympics four years later, as a competitor.
“And that’s where it all started,” she recalls on an afternoon in late February, beaming with the signature smile that has captured the hearts of the Hong Kong public.
