When screaming fans greeted singer Pat Boone in Hong Kong on his whirlwind visit for two concerts
- Boone, who was mobbed on his arrival in 1964, gave two concerts at City Hall; starting with some ballads, he went through his repertoire, the Post reported
- When reporters asked him about the band of the moment, The Beatles, he said they were ‘fun and full of a sense of humour’ and they had ‘a great beat’

“When the popular American singing star Pat Boone arrives on March 25, he will have a very busy time for he has only 24 hours to spend here,” reported the South China Morning Post on March 15, 1964.
When Boone finally arrived as planned on March 25, the Post reported the next day that “hundreds of screaming teenage fans mobbed the American singing star [and] police were called in to hold back the crowds of autograph hunters who surged round their idol as he emerged after clearing customs.
“Later, at a hotel press conference, Mr Boone got the same treatment – this time from newspaper photographers. Cameramen pushed and jostled each other and climbed on to chairs and tables as they shot hundreds of photographs of the singer. Reporters forced their way to the front of the throng.
