How often do you reward yourself with a piece of jewellery?
I think it’s a very good investment and it’s never too much. No matter how extravagant the design might be, a masterpiece will never be out of fashion because of the value of the diamonds and precious stones. It’s timeless.

Did you ever raid your actress mother (Deborah Lee)’s jewellery closet?
She showed me a while ago. It’s in a vault. You need two keys to open it – my mum has one key and someone else keeps the other. I felt really grown up afterwards. Back then, I couldn’t tell the value of those pieces, but now I understand and want to see them again.

Has she ever let you borrow a piece?
Yes. Every time I go to something important, she’s very keen for me to wear diamonds. She thinks women should be adorned with diamonds, especially for a black tie event, or else there would be something missing. I once got dressed to pick her up and she made me go home, take off my set of jewellery and wear diamonds. It’s been great because I wouldn’t have known all these things if it weren’t for her.

Do you have a personal lucky charm?
I keep a lot of sentimental things, but a lucky charm? I think I’m lucky all the time. I am superstitious and wouldn’t mind having these [Van Cleef & Arpels] for a lucky charm.

Do you see yourself designing some day? Maybe your engagement ring?
I’m simple. I want a ring that’s super simple, and I really like yellow and green diamonds. Pearls are beautiful too.
