EVENT Calvin Klein Platinum Label Spring 2014 Presentation
WHERE Shaw Studios, Tseung Kwan O
Happening: It's been a while since we last trekked all the way to the Shaw Studios for a ticket to party, but the incentives were high enough to attract partygoers to the secluded and ultra-exclusive venue on a weeknight. To present its luxe diffusion line for the first time in Asia, Calvin Klein's creative director Kevin Carrigan flew in especially for the event. Celebrity models including Liu Wen took to the runway featuring the sleek and modern collection.
The stellar guest list included supermodels Tao Okamoto, Du Juan and Gaile Lai, and socialites the likes of Anina Ho, Yvette Yuen and Yolanda Choy. Some partied till the late hours and took photos of themselves against the giant impressive silver-foiled backdrop.
CHIC CHAT with Kevin Carrigan
That's quite a model line-up. What were you looking for when you cast these models to present the new line?
The idea of the casting was to have this new tribe of [young people] so we included models such as Liu Wen and Soo Joo, who are young and cool.
What was the biggest challenge you encountered while working on the campaign?
It wasn't challenging because I'd been elevating the line already. It was actually 100 per cent joy for me - getting the codes of Calvin decoded, reassembled and put together for a new generation.
What can we expect from the new platinum label?
I'm using a lot more Italian fabrics, a lot of noble fibres such as 100 per cent wool and 100 per cent silk from China, and Japanese polyesters. I'm not mixing the fibres together, but mixing different pieces in the same outfit. So you could have a beautiful, tailored wool jacket but mix it with a crazy metallic skirt.
Oh my God, it’s Liu Wen … and Soo Joo … and Cici! I’ve died and gone to model heaven, and that big platinum wall there is actually the pearly gates.
