HAPPENINGS: This year's Paris Biennale des Antiquaires isn't opening until September, but the city's well-heeled crowd had an exclusive preview of participating artist Wallace Chan's high-jewellery collection in the ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental. His latest collection - themed "Behold, Betold" - features exceptional pieces including "Gleams of Waves", a goldfish shoulder brooch with yellow diamonds, rubies and pink sapphires.

Chan's long-time patron, socialite Lynn Hsieh, turned out to show her support with daughter Emily Lam and son Lester Lam. The Paris Biennale's artistic director, Christian Deydier, flew in from France for the event. Chan hosted a VIP dinner the following day at the Grand Hyatt in Wan Chai.

OVERHEARD Who wouldn’t want a diamond-studded goldfish perched on their shoulder?

CHIC CHAT with Wallace Chan

How do you relax with such a hectic touring schedule?
Actually, the busier I am, the more peaceful I feel.

Are you often inspired by nature?
I believe nature is our grand master. It’s always full of inspiration.
