Valentino joins charity car tour to help children in Sierra Leone, Ghana and South Africa

Women empowered themselves not with glamorous jewellery or haute couture, but with the boldness to hit the road for a change. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative directors of Valentino, joined the third edition of the "Cash & Rocket on Tour" charity event.

This year's event raised about £776,000 (HK$10.2 million) for three humanitarian organisations - Shine On Sierra Leone, OrphanAid Africa and Sumbandila - to provide children and their families in Sierra Leone, Ghana and South Africa with health care and educational programmes. Seventy women from the fashion and music industries and the cinema and business scenes completed the car tour from Piazza San Marco in Venice to London in 35 red sports cars, covering 1,600km in four days.

Valentino donated 20 per cent of sales from several items from its Rough Absolute Signature collection to the three NGOs.
