Bulgari Serpenti watch sets new world record price at auction

STORYEileen Liu

A new world record was set as a rare enamel and diamond Bulgari serpent motif watch designed in 1965 fetched more than US$1 million at Christie's in London from a private collection. The amount tripled the estimated price for a Bulgari serpent watch.

The Serpenti collection was inspired by the coiled gold snake bracelet that once adorned Cleopatra. The jeweller introduced Serpenti wristwatches in the 1940s as a tribute to the historical beauty icon.

Celebrating its 130th anniversary, Bulgari prides itself with boldly-coloured designs which are beloved by collectors and A-listers such as Elizabeth Taylor and Naomi Watts.
