Exclusive / Five Minutes with Stuart Weitzman

Stuart Weitzman’s classic 50/50 boots combine comfort with style. And it only gets better from here. In collaboration with creative maestros including Huishan Zhang, Erickson Beamon and KTZ, Stuart Weitzman reinvented its signature footwear. We sat down with brand founder Stuart Weitzman and Lane Crawford’s Kim Kollar to find out more about the creative union.
Q: Kim, why did you decide to initiate the collaboration?
K: This collaboration was designed with the aim to add another level of creativity to the success of the 50/50 boots. With these three special versions of the 50/50 boots, our hope is that Stuart Weitzman fans will be delighted and excited at the endless possibilities.
Q: Stuart, how does it make you feel when you see the “re-boot” 50/50s turnout?
S: I love seeing the different interpretations of the silhouette through the eyes of other designers – it’s inspiring.
Q: Can you describe your design philosophy?
S: I design for the modern woman who wants style and fashion yet doesn’t want to sacrifice comfort.
Q: Today, we see the trends of women’s shoes going in a more extreme and less comfortable direction. What’s your take on it?
S: I do think there are those rare individuals that will sacrifice anything, including comfort, for a certain look, although that should not be necessary considering all the wonderful designs on offer.
Q: This time you worked with contemporary Chinese designer Huishan. How did you enjoy the collaboration and what do you think of emerging fashion talents from China?
S: Working with young talents and nurturing their skills is always a good thing for both parties involved in a project. I enjoyed [working with Huishan] immensely and I’m sure that Chinese designers will be well represented on the stage of fashion.
