The Foodini, from Natural Machines, is a new generation of kitchen appliance which combines food, art, technology and design. The 3D food printer takes on the difficult and time-consuming parts of making food. It forms dough into a dozen breadsticks, or fills and forms individual ravioli. It uses fresh, real ingredients to make healthy food, whether savoury or sweet. The printer is an open capsule model, meaning the user prepares and places ingredients into it. The printer can be used to make pastas, burgers, chicken nuggets, cookies, crackers, brownies and chocolate, which must then be cooked or baked as usual. Foodini is estimated to cost about €1,000 (HK$9,700), and mass production is expected to begin in the first half of next year. It will be sold on the internet and at selected distributors and stores.
