While Hirst's love of butterflies is widely recognised in his work, the beautiful insect was also close to the heart of René Lalique. It is fitting, then, that the collaboration celebrates the butterfly, a symbol of beauty and the fragility of life.
Hirst's project, aptly entitled "Eternal", uses the butterfly motif in a series of crystal panels. The panels, in vivid shades of blue, pink, amber, green, violet and black - or simply clear - carry a depiction of one of three varieties of butterfly in all its beauty and glory.
In total, 12 versions of the crystal panels - each limited to 50 pieces - are available. Collectors and fans of Hirst's work should note that each butterfly panel has been individually numbered and signed by the artist.
