HAPPENINGS: Fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa may be known for his chic laser-cut designs, but he's making his mark now in the world of fragrances. His debut fragrance - Alaïa Paris - was launched earlier this year and fashion's elite flocked to the celebratory cocktail reception at Lane Crawford.

The perfume, which exudes supreme femininity, is exclusively available at Lane Crawford and on the store's website. The scent features tones of musk, blended with notes of freesia, peony and pink pepper.

Among the crowd at the cocktail were models Cara G and Mikki Yao, singer Kary Ng, and actress Ankie Beilke. Jocelyn Luko-Sandstrom was spotted sampling the fragrance.

OVERHEARD Ankie Beilke The bottle is as sexy as the scent.

What do you look for in a fragrance?

I like something fresh, but with an edge to it. It should be sexy and elegant at the same time.

What is your favourite scent?

I'll always love vanilla. I don't think I'll ever stop liking it.

Do you have any favourite memories associated with a particular scent or fragrance?

Definitely - but it's more of an era than a single memory. Certain [scents] take me back to the person I was when I wore those scents. I used body mist in high school before wearing perfume. Whenever I smell body mist now, it reminds me of high school.

Do you have any exciting summer plans?

I'm teaching my first workshop at The Sanctuary. The workshop focuses on methods to help people remove childhood issues, blocks and traumas which still affect them.
