5 Things You Need To Know About Louis Vuitton S/S 16

Often referred to as a futuristic designer, Nicolas Ghesquière quips that for him, “the future is now”. Ghesquière’s S/S 16 collection for Louis Vuitton certainly transported us to the future.

 

1. The show itself, which took place at Louis Vuitton Fondation, was decked out to be a piece of installation art. A video snippet that shows the video game Minecraft merged reality with the cyber frontier. Other back-to-the future-like references include Tron: Legacy and even Wong Kar-wai’s 2046.

 

2.Looks are original, hi-tech yet extremely palpable. The taffeta skirt cut at the perfect length to show a bit of leg is cool and elegant and is possibly one of the most Instagrammed looks. The skirt is often seen matched with Vuitton’s perfectly constructed biker leather jackets bearing decorative monogram trims. The final group of looks, featuring metallic leather materials which have futuristic synthetic texture, flaunt precision in design and execution.

4.The shoes have delicate chains tied around the heel. Coveted styles include Chelsea boots, Oxfords and pointy lace-ups.

  

5.Now that the Louis Vuitton Fondation has officially been running for a year, guests were given private tours to catch a glimpse of other facets of the Louis Vuitton universe. Vuitton’s next exhibition in Grand Palais opens on December 4. The exhibition, entitled ‘Volez, Voguez, Voyagez’, will showcase some of the maison’s archived masterpieces circa 1854, and contemporary pieces.
