WHAT: THE AUREUS 24CT GOLD SURFBOARD
HOW MUCH: HK$1.39 MILLION
WHY: It's time to take surfing to thrilling new heights with The Aureus, the world's first 24ct gold surfboard from LUX Surfboards, which combines functionality and aesthetics.
It was handcrafted in a small studio in North Devon, England. LUX Surfboards has transformed a shortboard into a piece of jewellery which is fully functional.
Inspired by the iconic single-fin shape surfboards of the 1970s, The Aureus is a one-off in a series of limited-edition surfboards to celebrate surfing history. It measures 2.032 metres long.
The use of 24ct gold leaf throughout the construction of the surfboard enhances the wave of the fibreglass, and adds a delicate luminosity to the curves of the board.
The deck features a triple 24ct gold leaf elliptical pinline design, while the hull boasts a 24ct gold gilded fibreglass fin. There is also a hand-cut 24ct gold gilded LUX Surfboards logo. The Aureus is a collaboration between Europe's only female professional surfboard maker Ellie Miller and gilding artist Danni Bradford, who specialises in a technique of glass gilding called Verre églomisé.
