Zegna has been honouring the best quality wool in Australia for more than 50 years

Merino wool, which comes from the Merino sheep, is considered one of the most luxurious wools in the world. For the consumer, it feels extremely soft.

The smaller the fibre, the softer the wool. Superfine Merino wool can sometimes have a diameter of 17 microns. For wool to be considered “very fine”, it must have fibres smaller than 24 microns.

Ermenegildo Zegna was the first company to support wool growers and the Australian Superfine Wool Growers Association (ASWGA).

Zegna has sourced wool from Australia since the 20th century because of its incredible natural fibres. High quality fibres are key to making Zegna’s top-of-the-line fabrics and products.

The Awards honour Australia’s best growers with two trophies: the Superfine Wool Trophy and the Vellus Aureum Trophy.

David and Angie Waters at Tarrangower Merinos, Hillgrove, New South Wales have won the Superfine Wool Trophy for the past three years, raising the bar for wool growing in the region.
