Style Edit: Henry Jacques’ Parisian apartment-like boutique at Hong Kong’s Elements mall

Henry Jacques, the French haute parfumerie, envisions its retail spaces as “living” environments rather than shops in the conventional sense of the word. A case in point is the maison’s Hong Kong boutique at the upscale Elements mall in West Kowloon. The space exudes an aura more akin to a private Parisian apartment than a commercial outlet. Local cultural influences are subtly woven into the elegant French craftsmanship that defines the brand. Guests are invited to linger, perhaps leafing through an art book, or enjoying a coffee while admiring a curated set of lithographs around the central perfume display.

At the heart of the boutique lies the Corian “perfume organ”, an impressive display of flasks and beakers inviting visitors to embark on a journey of olfactory discovery. Flanking this perfumer’s station are symmetrical Corian niches housing the 50 precious gemstone-coloured fragrances of Les Classiques collection in handblown crystal flacons.

Beyond this central area, a more intimate inner space unfolds. Alcoves made cosy with velvet stools, Bergère 1930 armchairs and plush curtains serve as private lounges where guests can explore their favourite scents at their own pace. Lithographs by Japanese artist Aki Kuroda add to the contemplative mood, while antique chests and secret cabinets hold the rarer Les Exceptions collection as well as historic flacons and collector’s items. This setting encourages reflection, embodying the brand’s view that the act of engaging with fragrance is also a discovery of oneself – one built on attentive listening and trust.

Designed by Christophe Tollemer – Henry Jacques’ artistic director and a family friend – the boutique’s furnishings blend personal creations, treasured antiques and contemporary design. This eclectic style honours the maison’s rich heritage while simultaneously communicating a spirit of vibrancy and invention. The hand-stained chevron flooring, gilded basswood mouldings, and elegant matte-gold ceiling topped with a Porta Romana Bianca chandelier add to the sense of understated luxury.

Far from a mere shopping destination, Henry Jacques’ bespoke perfumery in Hong Kong is a sensory haven where craftsmanship, history and individuality merge – a space where guests are invited to immerse themselves fully in the art of haute parfumerie.
