  • As autumn approaches, we’re swapping out bright, neon nails in favour of deeper, darker hues – but it doesn’t mean any of the fun is gone, as chrome colours remain in vogue
  • French manis and red hues remain forever timeless and go well with the cooler months, while natural lengths are becoming increasingly popular as they are more practical than extremely long nails

Beauty trends change by the season. As we say goodbye to summer and enter the cool breezes of autumn, that means a change in wardrobe, hair and nails.

We asked three nail professionals about design trends that are in – or out – this autumn. Chrome designs, natural and cool tones, and French tips will be popular, said these experts. But accent nails, neon colours and extra-long acrylics are falling out of the limelight.

Here are eight nail trends you need to know right now …

1. Chrome nails

Chrome nails peaked last year when Hailey Bieber sported her glazed-doughnut manicure and the trend’s popularity hasn’t stopped. This autumn though, Hayley Dang, nail artist at Bellacures, suggests trying chrome nails with a twist.

“It now comes in various colourways and can be applied in a way that enhances nail art as opposed to a simple ‘all over’ chrome application,” she told us.

2. Natural-looking nails

Minimalist nails are expected to remain popular through autumn, according to celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann. “Many are taking breaks from their usual gel or acrylic manicures and freshening up with a very light, natural manicure to keep their nails healthy,” she told us.

3. French manicures

French manicures – especially when styled with a thin tip – have grown drastically in popularity, according to Lippmann. “Those that want a pop of colour but don’t want to commit to a full nail can change the colour of their tip to match any look or aesthetic,” the manicurist told us. “For an added glam, chrome or designs can be added.”

4. Aura nails
